Antique Historical Blue Transferware

19th Century

' Landscape Series'

Very Large Platter

- Blue Rose Border -

A spectacular piece in excellent condition.

This beautifully patterned large blue and white 19th century staffordshire transferware platter with well was made by WEDGWOOD . It has the WEDGWOOD serif impressed mark on the reverse along with the impressed letters M and R . It is from Wedgwood's Landscape Series, possibly the 'Sicilian Pattern".

The dramatic scene at the center is of a craggy outcropping of rocks and overhanging trees, a two masted sailing ship with additional smaller vessels with figures. A castle ruin and in the distance a view of a town on a hillside with additional sailing ships and far distant mountains. Gorgeous BLUE ROSE Border around the 2" wide rim.

This very large and very heavy 19th century Staffordshire Historical Blue Transferware Platter is 19" across by 14" wide and 3" high. The rim is 2" wide.

In excellent condition.

The platter has a wonderful deep resonant ring when struck which is only possible when there is no damage, no cracks or hairlines. There are a couple of tiny glaze pops on the front, expected wear to the foot rim and underside of well. No damage, no cracks, no chips, no hairlines, no restoration. Retains a beautiful glaze.

Impressed WEDGWOOD mark on the reverse.
