DESCRIPTION

A large and heavy handmade redware slip decorated charger.  A rich deep reddish brown with pale yellow and dark brown slip.  The design at the center is of a Tulip with a Heart. An unusual and charming design based on one of the early Pennsylvania Redware potters of the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Very primitive in design, the potter used an under glaze to give the appearance of crazing.  The edge of the charger was made to look worn from use and wear just as a 200 year old piece of redware would appear.

A gorgeous glaze and a simply beautiful piece of revivalist redware.  The old impresed mark of Turtle Creek Pottery of Morrow Ohio is on the reverse along with the hand inscribed signature of the potter, Phill B. Davis and dated 1993.

Size:  12" across and 2" high
