Antique Primitive

Large Wooden Farrier's Carrier

Tool Tote Box

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania

An Antique, well used Primitive Tool Carrier

A great item for your Country Home.  Found in an old Lancaster County Pennsylvania Barn, an antique Farrier's Tool Tote Work Box from before the Civil War.  The wonderful worn wood grain attests to the great age of this piece.

We have left this just as found, it hasn't been out of the barn for several generations.  The surface is untouched, dusty, worn, weathered and primitive.  Of course you could polish this up, several coats of wax and it would look spectacular ... but we love it just the way it is.

 A True Primitive Lovers Dream!

This was made at least as early as the 1850's, but could possibly be much earlier.  It was made of 1" thick oak boards, a real rarity!  And how beautiful they are with that fabulous grain showing!  It's extremely heavy and quite sturdy.  It's seen much use on rough surfaces over the years causing one leg to have a little 'wobble'.  Just gives it even more character, it still stands upright just fine!

The ends are extended diamond shapes with boot-jack feet.  A thick and heavy rounded oak carry handle is slotted into the end pieces.  The tool tray is worn and weathered and has lots of nicks and gouges and shrinkage lines. The old black paint is very worn, and all but gone on the handle.  This is more than 150 years old and certainly shows it's great age.   It can  still hold a good weight.

This is quite large, a real 'show piece' of primitive Americana.  Still in great condition, and displays handsomely!

Size:  24" high  x  26-1/2" long  x  9-1/2" wide

Weighs 14-1/2 lbs.

Excellent ... Super Primitive and Very Big!

Still strong and sturdy
