This painting is offered from our own personal collection.  We purchased this painting, unframed, about thirty-five years ago.  At the time, we owned a gallery with framing facilities so we framed it for ourselves.  It's still in excellent condition, no damage, and no fading since we used conservation materials in the framing.

Pierre Redoute is recognized as the finest floral and botanical painter who ever lived.  His biographical information is widely available on the internet.  Just Google his name. In Paris, between1827 and 1833, he published a huge collection of his illustrations as "Choix des Plus Belles Fleurs".  They were stipple engravings, printed mostly in color but with some added hand coloring.

His art is still extremely popular today, but primarily for decorative purposes.  You can find many of his works as cheap modern prints on the internet for less than $20., but his original engravings sell in the range of $1,500.00.  We have no idea what his original paintings might be worth, if in fact, any are available.

This however, is an original painting but certainly not by him.  What it is, is a fantastic copy, executed in opaque watercolor by a highly skilled artist.  The painting is so fine, that it has to be examined with a jeweler's loupe to find any brushstrokes.

We've taken it out of the frame to photograph it without the glass, cleaned the glass and refitted it with a clean dust cover.
It has hooks and a wire and is ready for you to hang and display and enjoy.

Painting size (mat opening):  8-1/2" x 7-1/8"
Overall w/frame:  15-3/4" x 14-1/2"
