A large and heavy handmade redware slip decorated charger plate
/ deep dished bowl from Turtle Creek Pottery of Morrow Ohio. This is a vintage
piece handmade by Phil B. Davis, it is signed on the reverse and dated 1993.
A rich deep reddish brown with yellow and dark brown slip. The
design at the center is of a Tulip Tree with a Heart. An unusual and charming
design based on one of the early Pennsylvania Redware potters of the 18th
and early 19th centuries. Running your hands over the interior of this beautiful
large charger you can feel the coiled clay.
Very primitive, the potter used an under glaze to give the
appearance of crazing. The edge of the charger was made to look worn from
use and wear just as a 200 year old piece of redware would appear.
A gorgeous glaze and a simply beautiful piece of revivalist
