Pottery charger created twenty six years ago signed and dated on the
The scene depicts General George Washington
on horseback with an inscription on the outer border of the plate. This
is an original piece from Lester Breiningers Pottery in Robesonia, Pennsylvania
it is signed and dated on the reverse.
The inscription on the reverse reads:
Breininger Pottery - Robesonia PA., - September 28, 1986 - "Dreary
Size: 10-1/4" x 10-1/4" x 1-3/8"
Lester Breininger was a nationally
known figure whose fame spread far beyond the little town of Robesonia where
his home and studio were located for many years.
Breininger had been producing
pottery since 1965. His work can be found in the collections of several major
museums, among then, the Smithsonian, Winterthur, and the Philadelphia Museum
of Art. Many national magazines have written articles about him.
||Each year, Lester had an open house
at his combined home and studio which he called his annual 'porch sale' they
were held every August. The first sale was held back in 1970 on the 100 foot
long porch of his historic Victorian home. We were fortunate to attend many
of those sales since we live just a few miles away. We made several
purchases at the Porch Sales over the years, and it was always amazing to
see the crowds that gathered there, with folks traveling from many states
to buy his latest
